Their \u201csuperpower\u201d? In a nutshell, promoting\u00a0<strong>healthy aging<\/strong>\u00a0by countering\u00a0<strong>chronic latent inflammation<\/strong>\u00a0related to many diseases. Today we launch a series of articles to learn more about them.<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"title_text-block_60d6f269ec137\" class=\"w-row title_text\" data-ix=\"slidein\">\n<div class=\"col w-col w-col-4 w-col-stack\">\n<h3 class=\"article-title\">Resveratrol and polydatin<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"w-col w-col-8 w-col-stack\">\n<article class=\"content-article\"><strong>Resveratrol<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>polydatin<\/strong>\u00a0are\u00a0<strong>antioxidant<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>anti-inflammatory<\/strong>\u00a0molecules, but they also appear to have\u00a0<strong>antiviral<\/strong>\u00a0action, capable of interfering with infection by the\u00a0<strong>Sars-Cov-2<\/strong>\u00a0coronavirus and limiting its replication in nasal epithelium cells. Resveratrol is a non-flavonoid phenol found in many foods, e.g., grapes, and has been used for years for its properties that exert an antiaging effect on our bodies.\u00a0<strong>Polydatin<\/strong>\u00a0is a precursor of resveratrol and is able to improve the functioning of\u00a0<strong>mitochondria<\/strong>\u00a0(the \u2018energy\u2019 powerhouses of cells) by modulating the action of sirtuins, a group of 7 proteins critical for survival.<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"title_text-block_60fa9a61d915b\" class=\"w-row title_text\" data-ix=\"slidein\">\n<div class=\"col w-col w-col-4 w-col-stack\">\n<h3 class=\"article-title\">Glutathione<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"w-col w-col-8 w-col-stack\">\n<article class=\"content-article\"><strong>Glutathione<\/strong>\u00a0is one of the most powerful natural antioxidants in our bodies. It plays a central role in\u00a0<strong>\u201cdetoxification\u201d reactions<\/strong>\u00a0(by which toxins, both those produced by our bodies and those from outside, such as from drugs and food additives, are eliminated) and in\u00a0<strong>tissue repair<\/strong>, and it supports the\u00a0<strong>immune system<\/strong>. As we age, its levels decline, but it can be restored through adequate supplementation of its precursors:\u00a0<strong>glutamine<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>cysteine<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>glycine<\/strong>.<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"title_text-block_5eb51812a3d42\" class=\"w-row title_text\" data-ix=\"slidein\">\n<div class=\"col w-col w-col-4 w-col-stack\">\n<h3 class=\"article-title\">NAD+<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"w-col w-col-8 w-col-stack\">\n<article class=\"content-article\"><strong>NAD+<\/strong>\u00a0is also strongly involved in cellular metabolism and aging. The presence of high levels of this molecule in the body, in fact, contributes to the activation of\u00a0<strong>sirtuins<\/strong>, which specifically use NAD+ to carry out their functions. As is the case with glutathione, it has been found that as we age, NAD+ tends to decline. At age 70 there is up to 40 percent less of it than at age 40. Again, however, its levels can be restored through supplementation of its precursors, for example,\u00a0<strong>nicotinamide (NAM)<\/strong>.As is often the case, using precursors brings advantages because it increases\u00a0<strong>bioavailability<\/strong>, that is, the fraction of a substance that can actually be used by the body for its physiological functions.
