Covid-19, why seasonal ailments can aggravate its effects<\/h3>\n Solongevity Research publishes in Frontiers in Immunology<\/strong>\r\n\r\nSoLongevity Research enters fully into the Covid-19 issue with an article published in the international journal Frontiers in Immunology<\/a>. Analyzing the serological data of Covid-19 patients, Dr. Alberto Beretta<\/a><\/strong> together with Prof. Donato Zipeto<\/strong> of the University of Verona and Martin Cranage<\/strong> of St George Hospital (University of London) have discovered in plasma, a mechanism of immune response that interferes negatively with the clinical course of the infected. These are antibodies that cross-react with coronaviruses family that cause very mild symptoms and have been circulating in the world population for a long time. Of these viruses, one in particular, called OC43, has a particular similarity with SARS-CoV-2 virus and can induce the production of cross-reactive antibodies<\/strong>.<\/div>\n\r\n\r\n

Each of us has a pool of genes capable of synthesizing these super-antibodies, but in some situations cross-reactive antibodies<\/strong> may also appear, interfering with the disease and aggravating it.\r\n\r\nThrough a “deceptive” mechanism, the immune system activates cross-reactive antibodies thinking it is dealing with a known virus. When the immune attack has no effect, because these antibodies are not able to neutralize the specific COVID19 virus, the immune system triggers the final solution: the cytokinic storm, the real cause of mortality.\r\n\r\nThe research opens new scenarios for the development of diagnostic tests that will allow to set more targeted therapies investigating the patient’s immunological response. In the field of prevention research offers interesting ideas for the development of a safe and effective vaccine.\r\n
