Here are tests and exercises to do"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>The benefits of breathing well<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Nasal breathing<\/strong> (inhalation of air through the nostrils and exhalation through the mouth), for example, is better than oral <strong>breathing<\/strong>, which if acquired from childhood can alter anatomical structures and facial features, as well as have consequences such as <strong>snoring<\/strong>, which limits oxygenation and over time results in stiffening of blood vessels and thus<strong>hypertension<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Diaphragmatic breathing<\/strong>, then, is more effective than chest <strong>breathing<\/strong>: it is deep, provides better oxygenation and also promotes relaxation.<\/p>\n<p>There are studies that support that a <strong>lower frequency of breathing acts<\/strong> corresponds to a <strong>longer life span<\/strong>. &#8220;Breathing less frequently and more deeply <strong>improves cardiac coherence<\/strong>, regulation of the <strong>autonomic nervous system<\/strong>, and <strong>metabolic health<\/strong>,&#8221; reports Alberto Cerasari, Medical Director of the SoLongevity Clinic. &#8220;Although it cannot be said that breathing well makes you lose weight, we can say, however, that proper breathing can <strong>optimize energy metabolism<\/strong>: more oxygenated cells work better and make better use of nutrients.<\/p>\n<p>Proper breathing, in short, affects <strong>muscles<\/strong>, <strong>posture<\/strong>, <strong>strength<\/strong> and <strong>endurance<\/strong> (which is why it is essential for <strong>athletes<\/strong>). Finally, by modulating blood flow to the brain, it <strong>allows the various brain areas to work better<\/strong>, resulting in better management of <strong>anxiety<\/strong> and <strong>stress<\/strong> and superior <strong>sleep quality.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><b>How to assess respiratory capacity?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Within the <strong>SoLongevity Clinic<\/strong>, our medical staff is equipped to measure many of the <strong>parameters<\/strong> that allow us to assess <strong>respiratory function<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>One of the main tests is <strong>spirometry<\/strong>, which measures the <strong>capacity in liters to take in air<\/strong> (maximum ventilation) and thus the presence of conditions, not necessarily pathological, that limit it, for example, fibrosis, major scoliosis, or even just the amount of abdominal fat.<\/li>\n<li>Another test that can be performed is the <strong>cardiopulmonary exercise test<\/strong>, which measures <strong>breath-by-breath gas exchange<\/strong> and can identify problems that would not emerge at rest. &#8220;This test allows us to efficiently integrate the analysis of the <strong>heart<\/strong>, <strong>lungs<\/strong> and <strong>muscles<\/strong> under stress and <strong>how they interact with<\/strong> each other,&#8221; Cerasari explains. &#8220;In fact, it happens that with this kind of analysis, alterations emerge that deserve further investigation.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>A very important parameter for breath assessment, then, is <strong>VO2max<\/strong>, which indicates <strong>maximum oxygen consumption under stress<\/strong> and, according to several scientific studies, is<strong> linked to life expectancy<\/strong>. &#8220;High values are associated with a longer lifespan and a lower risk of getting sick,&#8221; points out Cerasari, who adds, &#8220;From breath analysis we are also able to assess <strong>metabolic parameters<\/strong>, that is, to understand how a person uses nutrients, and possibly how to intervene to modify the <strong>diet<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>That&#8217;s not all.
