Yet in several cases it is the diseases themselves, more precisely the <strong>inflammation<\/strong> underlying them, that <strong>accelerate<\/strong> ageing.<\/div>\n\r\n\r\n<div id=\"title_text-block_5eb5174aa3d40\">\n        <h3 class=\"article-title\">Inflammation, a life-saving mechanism<\/h3>\n          Inflammation is actually very important for our survival: it is the <strong>main defense mechanism<\/strong> by which the immune system, in most cases, resolves infections by creating a hostile environment for fighting back an &#8220;intruder&#8221; and sweeping away the parts of tissue that have been damaged. Once the enemy is defeated, inflammation generally subsides and the body moves toward healing.<\/div>\n\r\n\r\n<div id=\"title_text-block_60d6f269ec137\">\n        <h3 class=\"article-title\">The three mechanisms getting inflammation chronic<\/h3>\n          However, there are instances when the inflammation doesn\u2019t switch off and becomes chronic. There may be several reasons for this.\r\n\r\nDuring a viral or bacterial attack, It may happen that all the actions put in place by the immune system are <strong>not sufficient to eliminate pathogens<\/strong>, which may hide in the tissues perpetuating the inflammation.\r\n\r\nOther times the inflammatory state is activated by the immune system without a real reason, which often due to a genetic predisposition. Some solid data do exist on the role of the gut microbiota in modulating inflammation. Precisely on this topic, a <a href=\"https:\/\/med.stanford.edu\/news\/all-news\/2021\/07\/fermented-food-diet-increases-microbiome-diversity-lowers-inflammation\">group of researchers from Stanford School of Medicine<\/a> recently conducted a small study <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cell.com\/cell\/fulltext\/S0092-8674(21)00754-6\">published in Cell<\/a>: they investigated the effect of two types of diets, one <strong>high in fiber<\/strong> and one <strong>high in fermented foods<\/strong>.
