{"id":40783,"date":"2024-10-09T15:18:41","date_gmt":"2024-10-09T15:18:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/solongevity.com\/longevity-news\/solongevity-research-in-the-spotlight-at-the-2024-sinut-national-congress\/"},"modified":"2026-10-19T08:03:16","modified_gmt":"2026-10-19T08:03:16","slug":"solongevity-research-sinut-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/solongevity.com\/en\/longevity-news\/solongevity-research-sinut-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"SoLongevity Research in the Spotlight at the 2024 SINut National Congress"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The role of nutritional supplementation for health<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Nutritional supplementation<\/strong> is a fundamental pillar in the management of <strong>health<\/strong>, based on the observation that many <strong>active ingredients<\/strong> needed for the functioning of fundamental cellular mechanisms are often <strong>lacking in the diet<\/strong>, however rich and balanced it may be. And that is not all. Over the years our <strong>body loses the ability to process the active ingredients<\/strong> found in foods \u2014 an ability essential for keeping numerous biological mechanisms in balance.  <\/p>\n<p>A widely studied example is that of a molecule called <strong>NAD<\/strong>, which is produced in cells from precursors such as Vitamin B3 and is needed for more than 500 enzymes to function. With <strong>age<\/strong>, the ability to generate NAD from Vitamin B3 <strong>declines<\/strong> substantially, creating the conditions for a functional impoverishment of our cells. By providing the right amounts of Vitamin B3, or of two other similar molecules, the problem can be overcome very simply. For correct calibration of the therapy, however, it is essential to be able to <strong>measure NAD<\/strong> and its derivatives \u2014 something that has not been easy so far because reliable tests are lacking.   <\/p>\n<h2>Nutraceuticals: what are they?<\/h2>\n<p>In recent years a new generation of dietary supplements has emerged, called \u201c<strong>nutraceuticals<\/strong>\u201d. What is meant by nutraceutical? Simply a dietary supplement that has followed<strong> development and validation protocols similar to those used for drugs<\/strong>, which, as we all know, are subject to rigorous safety and efficacy controls.  <\/p>\n<p>A requirement for defining a nutritional supplement as \u201cnutraceutical\u201d is the possibility of <strong>verifying its efficacy<\/strong> with tests that measure either the <strong>presence of the active ingredients<\/strong> in the blood of the subjects taking it, or the presence of other molecules \u2014 belonging to known biochemical\/biological circuits \u2014 derived from taking the supplement.<\/p>\n<h2>SoLongevity research<\/h2>\n<p>At the congress of the<strong> Italian Society of Nutraceuticals<\/strong> (SINut), SoLongevity Nutraceuticals presented the first results obtained with a brand-new <strong>monitoring system<\/strong> that uses a technology called LC\/MS-MS (liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrophotometry). The system makes it possible to <strong>detect, on a simple drop of capillary blood<\/strong> (finger-prick sampling),<strong> a series of molecules involved in oxidative stress and in the energy metabolism of cells<\/strong>, such as Glutathione and NAD. <\/p>\n<p>The study analyzed, in a group of healthy volunteers, the antioxidant efficacy of a nutraceutical (<strong>CellFasting<\/strong>) containing the precursors of three active ingredients: <strong>Glutathione<\/strong>, <strong>NAD<\/strong> and <strong>Resveratrol<\/strong>. To measure its efficacy, three capillary blood samples were taken before, after one month and after three months from the start of supplementation. The results showed that <strong>taking CellFasting is sufficient to rebalance the blood levels of reduced Glutathione, NAD and Cysteine<\/strong> (the three most important molecular species in oxidative metabolism). <\/p>\n<p>The importance of the study lies in the demonstration of the <strong>precision<\/strong>, <strong>sensitivity<\/strong> and <strong>analytical accuracy of the test<\/strong> used and of the <strong>efficacy of CellFasting in controlling oxidative stress<\/strong>.
